Homemade Salsa Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 large onion, diced
- 10 large tomatoes, peeled and chopped
- 2 large green bell peppers, diced
- 1 large red bell pepper, diced
- 2 Anaheim chile peppers, diced
- 2 banana peppers, diced
- 4 fresh jalapeno peppers, diced
- 1 (28 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
- cup white vinegar
- 1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- cup water
Directions
- In a large pot, combine the diced onion, tomatoes, green bell peppers, red bell pepper, Anaheim chile peppers, banana peppers, and jalapeno peppers.
- Add the tomato sauce, tomato paste, white vinegar, diced tomatoes, and brown sugar. Stir well to mix all ingredients evenly.
- Season the mixture with chili powder, Italian seasoning, and salt. Stir again to incorporate the seasonings.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
- After simmering, mix the cornstarch and water in a small bowl until smooth. Stir this mixture into the salsa to help thicken it.
- Once the salsa has thickened, transfer it into sterilized jars, leaving about inch of space at the top. Seal the jars tightly.
- Process the jars in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes to ensure they are properly sealed.
- Once the jars are sealed, store any unsealed jars in the refrigerator. The sealed jars can be stored in a cool, dark place for future use.
