Sausage and Cream Cheese Pinwheels Recipe

Sausage and Cream Cheese Pinwheels Recipe

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

This recipe was developed at its original yield. Ingredient amounts are automatically adjusted, but cooking times and steps remain unchanged. Note that not all recipes scale perfectly.

Original recipe (1X) yields 12 servings:

  • 1 pound bulk pork sausage
  • 2 (8 ounce) packages refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened

Directions

  1. Gather all the ingredients together.
  2. Cook and stir the sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat until browned and crumbly, about 10 minutes. Drain and discard the grease.
  3. Take one package of crescent rolls and spread the dough out onto a work surface. Pinch the perforations together to create a single sheet of dough.
  4. Spread half of the softened cream cheese evenly over the dough, leaving about a 1/2-inch margin on each edge.
  5. Sprinkle half of the cooked sausage evenly on top of the cream cheese.
  6. Starting at one long edge, roll the dough around the filling to form a log. Wrap the log in plastic wrap or parchment paper.
  7. Repeat the process with the second package of crescent rolls to form another roll. Wrap this second roll in plastic wrap or parchment paper as well.
  8. Refrigerate both rolls until firm, at least 1 hour.
  9. Preheat the oven to 375F (190C).
  10. Remove the rolls from the refrigerator and unwrap them. Cut each roll into 1/2-inch-thick slices.
  11. Place the slices onto a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown.

I have made these and they were a hit!! A little hint, spray Pam or any type cooking spray on wax paper first then lay out crescent rolls . It will help not to stick and roll up perfectly. I doubled the recipe ad used half hot and half mild, they had kick but not too much because of the cream cheese. Awesome party, brunch or shower food.

"Very nice surprise, more moist and delicious than I expected" says my husband. He almost ate them all at once! I refrigerated the dough for 2 days and it held up wonderfully and was easy to slice. Additionally, I left my oven preheat for a full hour to accommodate the extra time spent in the frig. I added a teaspoon of Trader Joe’s onion salt, 1/4 maple syrup and used Jimmy Dean's Hot Sausage. It was the perfect pairing!!

I LOVE this recipe Flavors are sooo good - We usually make it just in a 9x13 pan. cook the (hot) sausage, melt in the cream cheese, spread 1 roll of crescent dough in 9x13 glass then top w/sausage mixture and top with 2nd roll of dough - bake and cut in squares YUMMM. Sometimes I'll add a layer of scrambled eggs and shredded cheese to make a complete breakfast square ! SO good and easy

An excellent recipe. I followed the advice of another review to use cooking spray on the waxed paper before rolling up the pinwheels. I refrigerated the rolls for about an hour. I also used a recipe for crescent rolls because I am allergic to soy so I can't use store bought crescent rolls. The pinwheels came out lighter in color due to less sugar in the recipe. I added chopped up green chili and used hot breakfast sausage I ended up making 3 and 1/2 dozen. I'm going to freeze the leftovers. I definitely will make this recipe again.

Made without cream cheese but using same quantity dough & sausage: use Sweet Hawaiian instead of plain crescent, add crumbled sausage to biscuit roll as described in recipe; per roll sprinkle 3/4 cup grated cheese (cheddar, Colby/jack, Mexican cheddar) and add light dashes of maple or butter flavor pancake syrup over sausage mixture. Follow instruction for rolling, wrapping on parchment or wax paper, securing in plastic wrap in fridge several hours or overnight. Protect oven from syrup or grease melting onto surfaces.

Once a month I make a breakfast treat for my husband and his coworkers. A few weeks ago I made these they were such a big hit he asked if I would make them again. I don't mind because they were easy to make the night before then I cut them while the oven is preheating then bake them off and shoo him out the door. I will say I mix the sausage and cheese then spread on dough, it works great

I mixed the cream cheese in with the sausage thinking it would be easier than spreading it on the crescent rolls, risking tearing open the perforations. It worked out great. I also followed another reviewer’s suggestion of spraying parchment before laying down the rolls to keep them from sticking. I wanted to use a crescent sheet instead of the rolls, but my grocery store was out of them. These are easy to assemble in advance and then make for a pretty presentation at brunch or breakfast.

I made this using sweet Italian sausage mixed with breakfast sausage. I mixed the cream cheese in the pan with (drained) sausage. I also added half a package of chopped frozen spinach (drained.) Rave reviews from family and guests! Delicious!

This is our favorite finger food and requested often, yet is so easy to make. I use maple flavored sausage. As someone suggested, I mix the sausage, green onion, umami powder, and cream cheese together. This mixture spreads easily. Before baking, I sprinkle them with sesame seeds. YUM!!!

Great! I added some shredded Cheddar to the cream cheese, and then added more on top of the sausage before rolling. I also added about 1 tsp. of onion powder to cream cheese. My somewhat picky husband pigged out! Thanks for the recipe!

I used up my leftover bacon for these and they were great… I did the wax paper and mixed the cheese and meat together, add the spices you like ❤️

I use Neeses Hot Sausage. And I mix sausage, after draining , with cream cheese to spread. Let your cream cheese sit out for a while to get soft makes it easier to mix and spread. I use wax paper to put the crescent roll on to spread mixture and roll. No problem rolling at all and I put foil over the wax paper before refrigerating They’re delicious every time. I cut off a few slices for breakfast or snack every day until they’re gone. Also I roll it the other way. I make fatter and shorter roll. I like the roll with more sausage and cream cheese mixture. I think it’s tastier rolled the shorter way Try it that way and see what you think!!

1/2" is too thin for us, first batch was a bit crunchy.Next time I made the slices a little thicker, brown on the outside, softer inside. Big hit with the kids, gone in seconds. They also liked them with gravy, but they put bacon gravy on everything anyway.

These were so easy and turned out great. I experimented and made some without sausage and some without cream cheese. They were all good but the original recipe (sausage and cream cheese) was best.
