Banana Yogurt Smoothie

Original recipe (1X) yields 2 servings

Ingredients:

  • 2 over-ripe bananas, broken into chunks
  • 1 cups thick plain yogurt
  • cup milk, or more to taste
  • 2 ice cubes
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar

Directions:

  1. Place the bananas, yogurt, milk, ice cubes, and sugar into a blender.
  2. Blend everything together until smooth and creamy. If necessary, adjust the milk to reach your desired consistency.
  3. Once the smoothie is well-blended, pour into glasses and serve immediately.

Cooks Note:

The servings here may seem small compared to what you'd get in restaurants outside of India, but this is actually a good size to enjoy the benefits of active bacteria in yogurt. Choose a strong-flavored yogurt as it will significantly impact the taste. You can substitute honey for sugar if you prefer a more natural sweetener. The milk helps with blending, so adjust it to get the texture that suits you best.

I opted for a blend of vanilla and plain Greek yogurt and found that skipping the sugar suited our palates perfectly, so I left it out. A lassi is akin to a smoothie, and I have to confess, I am a fan. After experimenting with various smoothies and a handful of lassis from this platform, I believe this recipe stands out as one of the simplest and most delightful, possibly due to its straightforwardness. The pure banana essence with a hint of yogurt tang is simply delightful. Exceptionally pleasing!

This lassi recipe was absolutely fantastic, and I highly suggest giving it a try! I made a single serving by using a container of plain Greek yogurt and one vanilla Activia yogurt. To my delight, I discovered that no extra sugar was necessary after taking a sip. Due to my small banana, the lassi had a gentle banana flavor that I personally found delightful, along with a lovely tang from the yogurts. Big thanks to Ivy for sharing this delightful lassi recipe!
