Yellow Split Pea, Carrot, and Rice Baby Food Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup yellow split peas
- 4 large carrots, peeled and chopped
- cup basmati rice
- Water to cover
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Directions
Step 1: In a small saucepan, combine the yellow split peas and chopped carrots. Add enough water to cover the ingredients by about 2 inches. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to a simmer.
Step 2: Allow the mixture to simmer until the peas are tender, about 30 minutes. Add more water as needed to prevent the peas from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
Step 3: Once the peas are cooked, add the basmati rice along with cup of water. Bring it back to a boil, then lower the heat and cook until the rice is tender, approximately 12 minutes.
Step 4: Remove the pan from heat and stir in the olive oil.
Step 5: Mash or puree the mixture to your desired consistency. For younger babies, blend it to a smooth texture, or leave it chunkier for older babies.
