Mother Earth's Baked Beans Recipe

Cook Time: 435 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 pound thick-cut bacon
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 cups brown sugar
  • cup barbecue sauce (such as Sweet Baby Ray's Honey)
  • cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons prepared mustard
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke flavoring
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 (28 ounce) can baked beans (such as Bush's Original)
  • 2 (16 ounce) cans kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 (16 ounce) cans Great Northern beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 (16 ounce) cans pinto beans, drained and rinsed

Directions

Step 1: In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until browned and crispy, about 10 minutes. Drain on paper towels and reserve about 2 tablespoons of the drippings in the skillet. Once cooled, crumble the bacon and transfer it to a slow cooker.

Step 2: In the same skillet, add the ground beef and chopped onion. Cook over medium heat for 5 to 10 minutes, until the beef is browned and crumbly. Transfer the beef mixture to the slow cooker with the bacon.

Step 3: In a separate bowl, combine the brown sugar, barbecue sauce, ketchup, mustard, molasses, liquid smoke, black pepper, and chili powder. Stir well to combine and pour this mixture into the slow cooker. Stir to combine all ingredients.

Step 4: Add the baked beans, kidney beans, Great Northern beans, and pinto beans to the slow cooker. Mix everything together thoroughly.

Step 5: Cover the slow cooker and cook on the "Low" setting for 6 hours. Once cooked, refrigerate for at least 8 hours or overnight to let the flavors meld.

Step 6: Before serving, reheat the beans in the slow cooker on "Low" for at least 1 hour until warmed through. Serve and enjoy!
