Korean Wontons Recipe

Korean Wontons Recipe

Cook Time: 13 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cups shredded cabbage
  • 1 cup canned bean sprouts, drained
  • cup shredded carrots
  • pound ground beef
  • cup sliced green onions
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds
  • teaspoon salt
  • teaspoon ground black pepper
  • teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 (16 ounce) package wonton wrappers
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil for frying, or more as needed

Directions

  1. Heat 1 teaspoons of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shredded cabbage, bean sprouts, and shredded carrots. Saut for 6-8 minutes, or until tender. Transfer the mixture to a large bowl.
  2. In the same skillet, place the ground beef. Cook and stir for 5-7 minutes until the beef is no longer pink. Drain the beef and add it to the bowl with the vegetable mixture.
  3. Add sliced green onions, the beaten egg, minced garlic, sesame oil, toasted sesame seeds, salt, pepper, and ground ginger to the bowl. Mix everything well to combine.
  4. Take the wonton wrappers and lay them flat on a clean surface. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the filling into the center of each wrapper.
  5. Lightly moisten the edges of each wrapper with water, either using your finger or a pastry brush. Fold one corner of the wrapper over the filling to meet the opposite corner, forming a triangle. Press the edges firmly together to seal the wonton.
  6. Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat, bringing the oil to 375F (190C).
  7. Carefully add the prepared wontons into the hot oil. Fry the wontons for 1-2 minutes on each side, or until they are lightly browned and crispy. Remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels.
