Korean Wontons Recipe
Cook Time: 13 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoons vegetable oil
- 2 cups shredded cabbage
- 1 cup canned bean sprouts, drained
- cup shredded carrots
- pound ground beef
- cup sliced green onions
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoons sesame oil
- 1 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds
- teaspoon salt
- teaspoon ground black pepper
- teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 (16 ounce) package wonton wrappers
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil for frying, or more as needed
Directions
- Heat 1 teaspoons of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shredded cabbage, bean sprouts, and shredded carrots. Saut for 6-8 minutes, or until tender. Transfer the mixture to a large bowl.
- In the same skillet, place the ground beef. Cook and stir for 5-7 minutes until the beef is no longer pink. Drain the beef and add it to the bowl with the vegetable mixture.
- Add sliced green onions, the beaten egg, minced garlic, sesame oil, toasted sesame seeds, salt, pepper, and ground ginger to the bowl. Mix everything well to combine.
- Take the wonton wrappers and lay them flat on a clean surface. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the filling into the center of each wrapper.
- Lightly moisten the edges of each wrapper with water, either using your finger or a pastry brush. Fold one corner of the wrapper over the filling to meet the opposite corner, forming a triangle. Press the edges firmly together to seal the wonton.
- Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat, bringing the oil to 375F (190C).
- Carefully add the prepared wontons into the hot oil. Fry the wontons for 1-2 minutes on each side, or until they are lightly browned and crispy. Remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels.
