Chicken Sausage Gnocchi Skillet Recipe

Chicken Sausage Gnocchi Skillet Recipe

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Ricotta Gnocchi with Chicken Sausage and Broccoli

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces ricotta cheese gnocchi
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • 2 tablespoons diced onion, divided
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic, divided
  • 2 chicken sausage links (such as Aidells), sliced
  • cup butter
  • 2 teaspoons all-purpose flour
  • Salt and ground black pepper to taste

Directions

Step 1: Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the gnocchi to the boiling water and cook until they float to the top, which should take about 2 to 4 minutes. Drain the gnocchi and set aside.

Step 2: Place a steamer insert into a saucepan and add water just below the bottom of the steamer. Bring the water to a boil. Add the broccoli florets, cover, and steam for 4 to 5 minutes, or until the broccoli is tender. Drain and keep warm.

Step 3: In a large skillet, melt 1 teaspoon of butter over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon of diced onion and 1 teaspoon of minced garlic. Cook, stirring occasionally, until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Add the sliced sausage to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned, about 5 minutes. Stir in the steamed broccoli.

Step 4: In a separate skillet, melt cup of butter over medium heat. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of diced onion, 2 teaspoons of garlic, and the flour. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture turns lightly golden, about 2 to 3 minutes. Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet and mix well.

Step 5: Combine the sausage and broccoli mixture with the gnocchi mixture in the skillet. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir everything together and serve hot.

Rewritten review: Originally, I would have rated this recipe with only one star. But, by adapting the concept and simplifying it into a one-pot dish, it turned into a five-star winner. I opted to double the recipe, skipped the butter, sautéed the onions in a splash of olive oil, used potato gnocchi, Aldi's spinach and feta chicken sausage, and added plenty of chicken broth. My family absolutely loved it and couldn't get enough.

Great recipe with amazing flavors! Normally I stick to the original instructions, but this time I decided to try some of the suggestions and I'm glad I did. I cooked a delicious dish using just one skillet to sauté garlic, onion, and sausage in butter. Adding broccoli towards the end was a great touch. Deglazing the skillet with chicken broth added a depth of flavor, and the seasonings of onion powder, black pepper, and sea salt really elevated the dish. Thickening the sauce with cornstarch worked perfectly. I used a full package of sausage and gnocchi, and the end result was absolutely perfect!

Delightful! I searched everywhere but couldn't find ricotta gnocchi, so I decided to make them from scratch. I paired them with chicken sausage featuring sundried tomato and basil. I will definitely be recreating this dish in the future!

I decided to enhance the potato sausage mix by making a cup of brown gravy instead of using flour for a thicker consistency. To give it a Cajun twist, I stirred in a tablespoon of roux. While the dish turned out good, I realized I prefer the texture of rice over gnocchi. Additionally, I served the broccoli on the side as some family members are not fans of it.

The dish turned out great! I substituted 17 oz of gnocchi and an Asian medley for broccoli, and I only used one large skillet.

Added some chili powder for an extra kick. The dish was quite rich in fat and salt. 🔥🔥

I typically don't stick to a recipe word for word, and I must say this recipe was no different. I swapped out the gnocchi for cheese tortellini, and the blend of spices worked perfectly. Initially, it may seem a bit plain, but the more you dig in, the more the flavors start to shine.

I tried out this recipe and found it to be somewhat bland. It's definitely a healthy option, but it lacks a certain something. I managed to reduce the number of pots needed by combining certain steps, which was a plus. To amp up the flavor, I sprinkled some grated parmesan cheese on top. I recommend giving it a shot, although personally, I don't think I'll be making it again.
