Mean Mr. Mustard Steak Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 1-inch thick rib-eye steaks
  • cup grill seasoning (such as Montreal Steak Seasoning)
  • cup grainy French mustard (such as Moutarde de Meaux)
  • 1 cup diced red onion, divided
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Directions

  1. Score both sides of each steak with shallow, diagonal cuts to create a diamond pattern.
  2. Season each steak generously with grill seasoning on both sides.
  3. Brush each steak with a layer of mustard, then press half of the diced red onions into the mustard on one side of each steak.
  4. In a large skillet, melt the butter over high heat.
  5. Once the butter is hot, place the steaks in the skillet with the onion-side facing down.
  6. Press the remaining onions evenly into the mustard on the top side of each steak.
  7. Cook the steaks for 4 to 5 minutes per side, or until they firm up and are browned on the outside while remaining red in the center.
  8. For a rare steak, check the internal temperature with an instant-read thermometer, which should read 125F (52C).
  9. Remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest for 5 minutes before serving.

This dish was absolutely amazing! Both my husband and I loved the delicious flavors in this recipe. I didn't have any red onion, so I substituted with a small yellow onion, and it turned out delicious. Personally, I could have easily had a few more servings of this delightful dish!
