Death By Chocolate Trifle Recipe

Death By Chocolate Trifle Recipe

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients

This recipe was developed at its original yield. Ingredient amounts are automatically adjusted, but cooking times and steps remain unchanged. Note that not all recipes scale perfectly. The original recipe (1X) yields 16 servings.

Brownies:

  • 1 (16.3 ounce) package brownie mix (such as Betty Crocker)
  • 2 large eggs
  • cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons water

Chocolate Pudding:

  • 4 cups milk
  • 2 (3.9 ounce) packages instant chocolate pudding mix

To Assemble:

  • 3 (1.4 ounce) bars chocolate-covered English toffee
  • 1 (16 ounce) package frozen whipped topping, thawed

Directions

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350F (175C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.

Step 2: To make the brownies, combine brownie mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water in a large bowl. Mix with a wooden spoon until well blended.

Step 3: Spread the brownie mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan.

Step 4: Bake in the preheated oven for about 21 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted 2 inches from the side of the pan comes out clean. Let the brownies cool completely.

Step 5: While the brownies cool, prepare the pudding. Whisk together the milk and pudding mix in a large bowl until smooth. Set aside.

Step 6: To assemble, crumble half of the brownies and layer them at the bottom of a glass punch or trifle bowl.

Step 7: Spoon half of the prepared pudding over the crumbled brownies.

Step 8: Crush one toffee bar and sprinkle it over the pudding layer, then top with half of the whipped topping.

Step 9: Repeat the layers in the same order: crumbled brownies, pudding, toffee, and whipped topping.

Step 10: Refrigerate the dessert until ready to serve. Just before serving, crumble and sprinkle the remaining toffee bar on top of the dessert.

Very good. Hubby rated this 5 stars with the first bite. I did not have toffee bars, so I added chocolate chips and pecan pieces instead....turned out great. Thanks for this new dessert recipe.

I am diabetic, but rest of family is not. I used 2 different brownie mixes. One was dark chocolate, the other caramel swirls. I also used sugar-free chocolate pudding. Layers were: dark brownie, pudding, fresh blueberries, whipped topping, shavings from a chocolate bar. 2nd set I used the caramel brownie instead, and 3rd set I went back to the dark brown brownie. It turned out beautifully, nobody could tell that I used sugar-free pudding (to lessen the sugar high after effects), and was delicious! The blueberries neutralized the sweetness of everything else, which in our case, was a good thing. It made the dessert 'feel' more healthy. LOL!

Childhood favorite! You can definitely substitute the brownie mix in this recipe if you want a more cake like dessert. Also, if you really want to wow people, buy some whipping cream and make your own whipped topping. Simply pour the cream into a large bowl and beat with an electric mixer for a while (it does take quite a while) until the air incorporates into it and becomes fluffy. You can even brag about it when serving it to your guests! :) Homemade whipped cream is so much more divine than coolwhip or any other store bought version. :)

I used Ghirardelli brownie mix with choc pieces, used both broken heath bar pieces and crumbles, and added a layer of caramel sauce and sea salt. It was a HUGE hit with the family. Would definitely make it again.

Been making it for years but I made brownies, poked and poured 1/4 cup Kahlua, layer 1/2 brownies, 1/2 choc mousse, 1/2 cup semi-sweet choc. chips, 4 scores bars chopped(easier if frozen) then cool whip. Repeat layers.

This is absolutely delicious!!! I make it gluten free using the gluten-free fudge brownie recipe, and everyone raves over it every time I make it... even my family members who say they don't like the taste of gluten free food! Instead of chopping up the Heath bars, though, I use Heath Milk Chocolate Toffee Bits. I have experimented with different variations, too, and my family's favorite is when I add two cups of peanut butter to the already made instant vanilla pudding (one cup per box) and use Reese's Mini Pieces and peanut butter chips in place of the Heath. I just put one in the fridge for a party tomorrow, and my kids more excited for the dessert than the party!

Made this for a 4th of July cookout and it was a HIT!!! Just a few changes.. instead of pudding I used chocolate mousse. I also poked holes in my brownies with a toothpick, drizzled them with 2/3 cup of khalua, and let the khalua soak in overnight. The flavor was awesome!!! Oh, and I used a mixture of 2 crushed Heath candy bars & 2 crushed Butterfinger candy bars. I would absolutely make this dessert again :)

I wanted to make this but didn’t have a couple items on hand. Instead of the brownie mix I used a devils food cake mix. I also didn't have chocolate pudding mix so I used vanilla instead. I used fresh whipping cream I whipped up for the cool whip. Lastly, I didn't have the toffee pieces so I cut up several fun size Snicker bars left over from Halloween! The outcome was shear bliss! I put a drizzle of caramel sauce on top, too. Please no negative comments about flipping the recipe! The nearest grocery store is 12 mile away!

This is exclusively for chocolate lovers! It's so good! I poke holes in my brownies and pour 1/2 cup Kahlua into my brownies. Cover and soak overnight.

Super yummy. I scaled back the pudding and brownies because there were only 4 people eating this- so one box of pudding with 1 1/2 C milk to make it a bit thicker and a small pan of brownies.. I used heath bar chips vs the candy bars and added torani chocolate syrup on top. Everyone loved it and it was enough for Thanksgiving dinner dessert and finished the next day.

Instead of toffee I used crumbled Oreos. Easy to make and loved by all chocolate lovers.

Loved it for how it turned out! Rich tasting but light?! Very satisfying. Crowd pleaser. Used a Devil's Chocolate cake mix instead of a brownie mix. Personally, one serving did it for me. Sent the rest home with dinner guests.

I had to use double the skor bars and double the cool whip. I also used homemade brownies.

Found this recipe about 10 years ago and my kids loved it. They are now grown & flown, and this is the dessert they request when they come to visit!

I'm giving it 5 stars because I used a devils food cake with chocolate chips in it instead of brownies plus everything else
