Great Recipes I changed a few things though I add and extra 1cup of grain Alcohol and an extra .5cup of vodka (WE LIKE IT REALLY STRONG) I also put a cinnamon stick and half a vanilla bean in each jar before bottling. One other thing due to the alcohol Content being so high you can store them at room temp... thanks for a great recipe everyone enjoys this stuff...

Oh my, but this is good! I made some over the weekend because my husband likes the flavored moonshines and I thought if it turned out good, I could add it to my Christmas gift baskets. After reading a number of the reviews, I did up the spices to 8 cinnamon sticks, 3 cloves and added half of a nutmeg pod. I simmered a bit longer - 40 minutes. I also put a cinnamon stick, a 1/3 of a vanilla bean (because that is all I had to split between the jars) and 1 clove to each jar. It turned out much better than I had hoped for. Everyone that has tried it so far has said that it is a tad strong, but smooth with the apple pie flavor. This is going in my cookbook of favorite recipes. Thank you for a great recipe!

I just don’t understand the reviews that say this recipe is too strong or too “boozy!”. Did you not see the word “moonshine?” This recipe is actually very mild for “moonshine.” I’ve made this for 3 years now. The first year, all I could get was 86 proof Everclear (I live in California.). However, last year I got on a military base and was able to purchase a couple bottles of pure 190 proof Everclear. Made it this way last year and everyone loved it. I’m making this years batch right now. On recommendation here, I added a little bit of ground cinnamon and nutmeg into the boil. I also added a little bit of liquid vanilla. We’ll see! All things considered, a very good recipe to hand out for the holidays. Oh, tell the recipients to warm it up slightly in the microwave! Knocks it into the stratosphere! Enjoy!

This is a great recipe. To truly take this to the next level we pour it into mason jars, add a heavy tablespoon of homemade caramel to each jar and store it in a cool place for a minimum of six months. At one year it's mind-blowing. At two years of age it's the stuff of legend. Good things come to those who wait.

I have made this for - this is the 5th time to give as Christmas gifts. We have a ton of crab and sweet apple trees so in the fall I boil them up to make cider. If I dont have time then to finish I freeze it until I do, but normally in November I will add my home made cider as the 'apple juice' with the peel of an orange and spices. I then add an extra cup of everclear and .5 of the vanilla vodka (as I learned from another contributor here), with a vanilla bean in each jar. I let it sit for a few weeks until Christmas. Its so popular and loved people wait for it - it wouldn't be the same without this in the family now. Thank you so much for sharing and thank you to the contributor who suggested adding more and it not having to be in the fridge. What a hit!

We used an entire 1L bottle of Everclear when we did it. The ratio is then: .7 gal cider .7 gal apple juice 5-6 cinnamon sticks 1-2 cloves 1.4 cups white sugar 1.4 cups brown sugar 1 Liter bottle Everclear 2.8 cups Vanilla Vodka This made just about 24 8oz jars, 12 4oz jars, & 2 pints of Apple Pie Ala Mode. We skimmed the impurities off the top and filtered the last couple inches of it later with a coffee filter. We figured it was best to use up the entire bottle of Everclear rather then watch it collect dust in our alcohol cabinet. Great recipe!

I've been playing with this recipe for a few weeks now and I think I nailed it. Half gallon of Everclear, 3 pints of Captain Morgan,( 750ml bottle), one gallon of apple juice, 1/2 gallon of apple cider.. one cup of brown sugar. 3 cinnamon sticks and a good spash af vannilla, and the best part 8 oz of honey. Heat everything except the alcohol for 30 min or more if you want. Mix in the everclear and captain morgan. And it's done .

This stuff is fabulous! Mine came out tasting more like Apple Crisp than an Apple Pie. YUM! I changed it up a smidge. Instead of the white sugar I used 1/2 cup of Red Hots candies. Also I used 1 cup of Carmel vodka and 1 cup of Vanilla vodka instead of the 2 cups of vanilla. Enjoy All!

Hi, this is my first time making this. I thought 1 cup of white and 1 cup of brown would make this too sweet. And I was right. Next time I may do .5 cup of white instead of a full cup or just may skip the white sugar all together; it was a tad too sweet. Overall this is very yummy and very smooth but I can see getting headache real quick from all that sugar. Also, I have read several people’s comments about it either being too strong or they added more alcohol cause it wasn’t strong enough. Since everyone’s pallette is so different I followed the recipe but now I know for me in the future I will be adding a full bottle of everclear and maybe a little bit more vanilla vodka and cut back on the sugar some. Otherwise this good, and plan to make in the future again!!! Thank you

I cut way back on the added sugar because it's too sweet for my taste as written. I buy 100% apple juice and cider, and added only a 1/4 of the sugar called for, and it is excellent. I also added some apples and simmered longer, and then strained them out before jarring. I put a cinnamon stick and portion of a vanilla bean in each bottle, as well. Can't wait to taste it in a few weeks!

Great recipe, but keep in mind that this will yield a 36 proof (18% abv) alcoholic beverage, which hardly passes for moonshine. If you want to make a true moonshine-strength liquor, then double the alcohol to make it 72 proof (36% abv). This will be a sipping drink, like whiskey... so keep that in mind and drink lightly. Here's my alteration: same recipe, but added an extra cup of brown suger; 1 tsp salt; 2 extra cloves; 1 tsp ground cinnamon (along with the 4 sticks); a full 1750ml bottle of 190 proof grain alchohol; no vanilla vodka; and added 2 tsp of pure vanilla extract. Oh, and I also used unfiltered apple juice, to give it that home-squeezed look. The result... a true 72-proof apple pie à la mode moonshine. Delish! But drink lightly!

This is the best recipe by far. You can hardly even taste the alcohol. Two thumbs up for this one !!

Six year Christmas gifting tradition. We use real Eastern KY Shine to replace the grain alcohol-Everclear. So smooth. I also drop an apple wedge in the smaller Mason jars after they have soaked in the Shine for a bit. Right after Thanksgiving the neighbors start asking if I am making a batch this year. Of course I am. Outstanding recipe!!!

We made it for the first time and the flavors are PERFECT. Just the right balance. We are gifting some for Christmas & keeping a jar for 1 year & 2 years from now to see if it makes a difference if it sits longer. Really excited to have found this recipe. Thank you so much!!
