I do prefer sweet and sour sauce with my egg rolls, but I thought that this was a tasty alternative that made for a nice change of pace. Wouldn't this also make a good marinade for grilled chicken and pork or tofu???

My two star rating is for the sauce as is. Here is my advice: Cut the vinegar to one tablespoon! This sauce will make you pucker if made as written, the vinegar takes over the taste of anything you put it on! Then add one tablespoon of white sugar or honey. Now you've got a dipping sauce!

I should have read the reviews before I tried this. The proportion of vinegar is way off in this as written. I'd suggest mixing the other ingredients and then adding a bit of vinegar at a time otherwise the vinegar is just way to overwhelming

Very good sauce. I love vinegar, but my husband doesn't so I sweetened it up by adding two tablespoons of brown sugar and he like it much better. We bought sushi and used it for dipping as well as egg rolls. Yum!!

I see there is another variation of this and I totally agree with it. The recipe by itself needs something. Brown sugar can be added but you don't need to heat it up. I also added a little water because the other ingredients are a bit strong and need to be toned down. I only made about 1/8 cup of liquid since I only needed enough for 2 egg rolls.

I have to agree with other posters on this one: too vinegary. Also, if you're a fan of the usual plum sauce, this will be quite different from what you are expecting. I would add sugar and cut the vinegar for starters. Maybe play around with fresh garlic. But at that point, you might as well look for another recipe.

Very good... I didn't have the onion but it still tasted good! Also for people complaining about the vinegar, Mirin (sweet cooking wine) is a great substitute

Great dipping sauce! I needed a super-quick sauce for egg rolls and this literally took about a minute to toss together. I'd just run out of rice vinegar so I substituted plain white vinegar instead and it was still great! Also, some of us put some sriracha sauce in to heat it up... good with or without. Thanks!

Excellent. I added 2 T. of brown sugar and doubled the recipe.

Hi danickstr here sorry for all who think it’s too vinegary. It is actually really good on pot stickers and was originally built for them. For egg rolls I love it as is but many younger or sweet eggroll palates will benefit from adding sugar to taste. With egg rolls I like to mix with sweet hot mustard for a true melange of flavors! That may be the missing step for the underwhelmed.

Made this to go with homemade crab wontons. The sauce was great. Instead of onion powder, I used green onion and I used balsamic rice vinegar. It really had a nice balance. Will make this again.

It was better than no dipping sauce but too thin and too much vinegar. I agree it would have worked for pot stickers but no to egg rolls. I prefer sweet and sour sauce.

It’s good. But not for egg rolls. More like for potstickers.

This is THE sauce for egg rolls and fried wontons! I made it according to the measurements on the recipe, however, I added about a tablespoon of oyster sauce and a little bit of sugar.. Either way, the BEST sauce I've tried for DIY sauce! Thanks so much for the recipe! :)

4.25.22 I agree with many other reviewers that this is not a good sauce for egg rolls or spring rolls. I totally could see this with dumplings or pot stickers, but a traditional sweet chili sauce or hot mustard sauce continues to be my preference for egg rolls.

This was disgusting. It was an assault to my nose, tongue and face. I couldn't eat it. It tastes like straight up vinegar. I followed the instructions exactly. I am legit so angry because I made eggrolls and was excited to eat them with this sauce.
