Best Spinach Dip Ever Recipe
This creamy and savory spinach dip, served in a hollowed-out sourdough bread bowl, is the perfect appetizer for any occasion. It combines the richness of sour cream and mayonnaise with the freshness of spinach and water chestnuts, making for a delicious dip that's sure to impress your guests.
Ingredients
- 1 (16-ounce) sour cream
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 (10-ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
- 1 (4-ounce) can water chestnuts, drained and chopped
- 1 (1.8-ounce) package dry vegetable soup mix
- 1 (1-pound) loaf round sourdough bread
Directions
- Step 1: Gather all the ingredients and make sure the spinach is thawed and well-drained. This will help avoid excess moisture in the dip.
- Step 2: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the sour cream, mayonnaise, chopped spinach, water chestnuts, and the dry vegetable soup mix. Stir until all ingredients are well incorporated.
- Step 3: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours, or overnight for the best flavor.
- Step 4: While the dip is chilling, prepare the bread bowl. Cut off the top of the sourdough loaf and hollow out the center, being careful not to puncture the bread. Leave enough bread around the edges to form a sturdy bowl.
- Step 5: Tear the removed bread into bite-sized pieces. These will be used for dipping into the spinach mixture.
- Step 6: Once the dip has chilled, transfer it into the hollowed-out bread bowl.
- Step 7: Serve immediately with the bite-sized bread pieces or any other dipping items you like, such as vegetables or crackers.
Cook's Note
You can substitute rye or pumpernickel bread for sourdough if you prefer a different flavor. For extra cheesy goodness, try stirring in 1/2 cup of shredded Swiss cheese to the dip mixture.

Rewritten review: This recipe is a great starting point, but with a few tweaks, it can easily become a 5-star dip (at least according to my taste buds). I prefer a thick, spinach-packed dip over a mayonnaise-heavy one. For my version, I combined 2 1/4 cups of sour cream, 3/4 cup of mayo, a 250g tub of softened herb & garlic cream cheese, 3 packages of spinach (900g, thoroughly defrosted and water squeezed out), 6 cloves of raw garlic, a small diced red pepper, a sautéed small diced onion, and a pack of Knorr cream of leek dry soup mix. I also increased the amount of water chestnuts. This resulted in a creamy, veggie-filled dip that was both delicious and nutritious. I opted for low-fat ingredients and served it with sourdough and baked garlic pita slices – it was a hit and disappeared quickly!

This spinach dip was excellent, although I recommend using the entire box of spinach for optimum flavor. I usually make the spinach dip recipe found on the back of the Knorr Vegetable soup mix box, which is also delicious. It's hard to choose between the two as they are quite similar and equally tasty. My 5-year-old loved this dip and it was a hit at a party we attended last night.

Delicious! I have made this recipe multiple times. To remove excess moisture from the spinach, I allow it to thaw almost completely before placing it in a salad spinner. This method works amazingly well and is much less messy!

Five-star recipe with a must-try addition - freshly chopped green onions! I highly recommend using at least 3, but I prefer adding 6 or 7 for extra flavor. Additionally, using Knorr Leek Soup is essential for the best taste. I suggest using a whole box of spinach, ensuring to remove all moisture by squeezing it dry. After chopping the spinach roughly, I use my hands to separate and loosen it up so it mixes well into the dip. To serve, I recommend pairing it with a round loaf of pumpernickel bread, or enjoy it with vegetables and Triscuit Thins for a delicious experience.

I could definitely go without the mayonnaise. It was just too overwhelming for my palate, but that's just my preference. I'll give a different recipe a try next time.

This spinach dip is hands down my favorite! It's packed with flavor and incredibly simple to make. Don't skimp on the spinach - use the entire package. Make sure to cook the spinach by boiling it and thoroughly squeeze out all the excess liquid before blending. I skip the mayo and prefer to use Knorr vegetable soup mix for an extra kick. Besides that, this recipe is definitely a keeper.
