Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 4 tablespoons white sugar
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pinch baking powder
- 1 tablespoon semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon sliced almonds
Directions
- Gather all ingredients and place them within easy reach.
- In a large mug, combine the flour, sugar, milk, cocoa powder, olive oil, and baking powder. Mix well until everything is fully incorporated.
- Stir in the chocolate chips and sliced almonds, making sure they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Place the mug in the microwave and cook for 30 seconds to 2 minutes, depending on the microwave's power. The cake is done when it has risen by about 50%.

I made this, but with healthier substitutions to see if it would still come out good. I used coconut sugar instead of white sugar, almond milk instead of cow's milk, coconut oil instead of olive oil. I also used dark cocoa because that is all I had. I cooked for 50 seconds. The result was great. I will never use eggs again for my mug cakes. Next time, I will try it with oat flour instead of wheat flour to make it gluten free :)

I made a lot of changes and was surprised how well it turned out. I subbed 1/2 the flour for coconut flour, 1/2 the sugar with stevia, and used cashew milk & vegetable oil. I cooked mine for 3 instances of 40 seconds each time. It came out more like a warm fudge, but tastes marvelous.

Super yum recipe! Especially when it's warm. I followed advice of other reviews here and used coconut oil instead of olive oil. I also didn't have any choc chips but I imagine they'd just make it better. I microwaved it for 30 secs to melt the oil, stirred it, then microwaved for another 2 min. I just stabbed it with my spoon to make sure it was cooked. The recipe makes quite a lot. I used one of my bigger mugs.

I love this! This is the first of many mug cakes I’ve made that has the texture of a fudge brownie. I substituted Swerve for the sugar and almond flour for the all-purpose gluten free flour.

I didn't have any on hand, so I didn't use chocolate chips or almonds. The resulting cake was somewhat dry, but palatable. Although you can omit the chocolate chips, I feel like it would be a lot better with them. Next time I want to make a mug cake I will use this recipe, it's defiantly worth a try. Just use chocolate chips. Update: I made it a second time, but with slight changed to the recipe. As I last said, I didn't use the chocolate chips or almond flakes. I substituted olive oil (last time it had a bit of an olive oil taste) with coconut oil (equal amount), and added a bit of water, maybe about a tablespoon. This drastically improved the recipe. I would pair it with whipped cream, ice cream, and add chocolate chips if I had any of those, but with the changes I made it tasted way better!

I spend very little time in the kitchen - very much a beginner in this field! This was quick and easy to make and came out perfectly. I'm not sure how others managed to get it so wrong. I didn't have any chocolate chips, so cut up a shocolate bar. Mine was dark cooking chocolate, which made teh end result quite rich, but still very nice indeed. I also made up three mugs separately, following the x1 instructions - then put all 3 in the microwave at once, for 5-6 minutes for the same result. Served with a scoop of ice cream. Very nice indeed.

Everyone in our family LOVED it! I substituted Dark Chocolate and added some chopped maraschino cherries instead of regular chocolate and sliced almonds, for a cherry chocolate valentines treat, and a pinch of vanilla extract & sea salt. Love how this does not use eggs and is fast and easy!

Awesome recipe!! It turned out for me but I only added 2 tablespoons sugar and used almond milk instead of regular milk. People might say it did not turn out for them, in that case maybe your pinch of baking soda is to small, my pinch was about half teaspoon, oh and if you want more flavor I added pumpkin pie spice 🤤

Doesn’t look great and didn’t rise. Maybe I need to add more baking powder? HOWEVER, tastes delicious. I just wanted something sweet using ingredients we had and this hit the spot. I used almond milk and walnuts as substitutions. Will try with more baking powder next time just to see if I can get that rise.

Was rather dry as the recipe calls for. We added raspberry preserves after it was done in the microwave and it was really good. For the kids, I added unsweetened apple sauce and it wasn’t as dry.

Yummy but it definitely needs more milk!!! Maybe 2more tablespoons or 3 to make it wetter...also I didn't add chocolate chips or almonds and it was delicious....very sweet!! If you are not a sweet person maybe 3 tablespoons of sugar will do instead. Delicious with whipped cream 😁

This recipe did not work at all, I’m not sure how it worked for every other commenter. There’s only 3.5tbsp of wet ingredients to 12tbsp of dry. I had to add more milk to make it somewhat resemble a batter before cooking, and the end result was a dry stodgy dense mess. And it was so bland

The cake turned out so soft and moist! I did not have chocolate chips so I broke a bar of chocolate into smaller pieces and it was a real game changer!

To me it's not sweet enough and when it cools it gets hard like a stale browne

Easy to make! Pulled out when a toothpick cake out clean. Just like a warm, chewy brownie.
